  • Pata Pies

Pata Pies sounds like a cooking game, but rest assured it is not. Actually, it could be. Not much is known about this game except its long title "Akihabara Denno-Gumi Pies" and the fact that it is described as a "friendship/adventure" game.

Judging by the two screenshots we have of the game, Akihabara Denno-Gumi Pies looks as if it is multi-platformed. The first shot shows what appears to be an almost Parappa the Rapper type of game going on between weird spud-like creatures. The other shot displays what seems like a question and answer session between the two potato creatures and a hot chick. That seems pretty friendly and adventurous, doesn't it? Although I could speculate about the gameplay all I want, the fact of the matter is that Sega has yet to release enough official information on the gameplay. All we really know, is that this game is based on the popular cartoon series starring none other than Pata Pi.

We can assume Akihabara Denno-Gumi Pies is a two player title, judging by the appearence of two children of Mr. Potato Head on the screen in both shots. If it isn't two player, then one of those yellow blobs has to be the other one's bitch, kind of like Tails to Sonic. My vote is that the toupee'd dude is the slave, since no one likes people with hairpieces in real life, and certainly not in friendly/adventurous types of games.

Graphic-wise, Pata-Pies appears sharp & crisp like most Dreamcast titles up to this point. It uses a mixture of Two-dimensional graphics consistings of static pictures and gourad shaded polygons. Assuming the first gameshot is in fact a Parappa styled game, we can assume that all those things in the background are moving around to go along with whatever music would be playing.

Music-wise, this is a game based of a popular cartoon character, so expect a lot of good tunes most likely recreated by the orchestrators for the original cartoon. Akihabara Denno-Gumi Pies contains cute yellow blobs straight out of the Herculoids and it's coming for your Dreamcast. It's cute, it's freindly, it's adventurous and it's slated for release in 1999. Stay tuned to Sega Otaku for more information regarding this title.
