Get Bass
Get Bass is a port of the highly popular Sega arcade fishing game from the arcades.
The unique mixture of polygon graphics and an arcade cabinet featuring a big rod as the controller made this game a popular title.
For the home conversion, it is expected that everything will be ported perfectly. The graphics in the arcade were very nice, but didn't seem to use very many polygons or special effects that could not be easily reproduced on the Dreamcast. A big surprise is that the big rod in the arcades will be replicated at home. The only difference is that it won't be as big of a rod as the arcade version. It will be a fishing rod controller specifically built for the home game.
Being a big fishing enthusiast, I assume I could get used to the smaller rod at my house just to enjoy the same amount of stimulation I got from the big rod in the arcade. Of course this leaves the question of what other games will utilize the small rod controller. A lot of complaints arose even way back in the Genesis days when you had to buy a Menacer to play T2 perfectly, but you never saw another game produced to utilize that shit gun ever. However, for those who really want an authentic conversion of a great game, the rod you can play with in the privacy of your own house will suffice enough.
The game utlizes the unique controller to make fish react to your hand movements. If you are violently jerking the rod all over the place, the fish will probably slip away, just like in real fishing. The game requires a lot of patience although not nearly as much as real fishing. Not much else has been mentioned on this home conversion, except for the fact that it will play and look just like the arcade version.
In addition, there is a possibility that special modes like a multiplayer mode will be included in the home version. At the time of this writing I am not certain of any extra modes which might be included, but judging from Sega's past conversions, a multiplayer mode as previously mentioned could be possible. Stay tuned to Sega Otaku for updates on Get Bass and it's Fishing Rode peripheral.
